Cloud offering Models:

Infrastructure as a Service (Iaas) – Providers offers physical infrastructure resources (e.g. servers, storage, networks and firewalls). Consumer’s user software defined templates or APIs to deploy and consume these services for their applications.

Platform as a Service (PaaS) – Provider offer application abstractions to platform component services to simply software engineering for developers without focusing on Infrastructure capabilities. The consumer does not manage or control the underlying cloud infrastructure including network, servers, operating systems, or storage, but has control over the deployed applications and possibly configuration settings for the application-hosting environment.

Software as a Service (SaaS) – Providers offer fully enabled applications that can be configured for consumption. SaaS provider may create proprietary infrastructure to run these applications or may host them on public cloud provider’s Iaas. The applications are accessible from various client devices through either a thin client interface, such as a web browser (e.g., web-based email), or a program interface. The consumer does not manage or control the underlying cloud infrastructure including network, servers, operating systems, storage, or even individual application capabilities, with the possible exception of limited user-specific application configuration settings.

Future cloud Models:

Function as a Service (Faas) – FaaS provides a very granular level of computing without the need to pre-provision of infrastructure for the server-less computing.

Container as a Service (CaaS) – It provides a portable distributed computing model that is important for consumers who wish to distribute the workloads across multiple cloud provides. One or more of the models are applied as needed.
